This is an extremely minor maintenance release for the Telefang translation project, mainly targeted at some minor bugs that have accrued over the past few releases. We're currently busy with a few other projects, and running out of easy bugfixes and unfinished work to complete.

Today would be the tax filing deadline in America, but thanks to weekends, that's actually not for two more days. In celebration of having two extra days to wait to pay your taxes, here's a new Telefang release. Version 118, the April 2018 release, is actually a pretty small update from the previous version. That doesn't mean it's not important, though!

The Field Guide updates in Telefang patch v117 were so massive I joked that we could have just shipped them alone as March's update and left the rest for April. With such a massive redesign, our patch notes don't really do it justice. The process of such a redesign is highly involved, requiring assistance from programmers, UI designers and translators alike. So, I wrote up an in-depth breakdown of what the process of a major UI redesign looks like.

We've been particularly busy working on a new release of the Keitai Denjuu Telefang patch for March 2018. This is a fan-made translation patch for both versions of Telefang, which may actually be better known in it's badly translated pirate form "Pokemon Diamond and Jade".

So, I happen to be a ROM hacker and I work on code and modifications for two Game Boy mongames. One of them is Telefang, slightly notorious in certain places for having been badly translated into Chinese and then English... and then marketed as "Pokemon Diamond and Jade". This is not an article about Telefang. This is, however, an article about Network Adventure Bugsite, which didn't have an English titlescreen until last month.

Last night I wrote a rather long rant about the effect bad translations had on my enjoyment of an adult male targeted comic book series called "Rozen Maiden". In the 20-odd hours since then, I found scanlations of that series and completed it. The translation quality was terrible, and I even spent some time shocking some of the Telefang translators as to what the fanbase does with clearly translatable vocal tics.

So, I need to confess something - I've been putting off work on the Telefang patches. I originally planned to release patches on a monthly basis, but after rolling out v111, I moved onto another Smilesoft game in need of hacking. I assumed other adjustments would come from other members of the project to justify v112 in July, but it didn't happen. Bugsite is it's own can of worms, but yet another thing has interrupted that project for something else.
